The anti-inflammatory diet
by Ann Kelley
Just months after we’d made the move to Arizona, my husband came down with a mysterious illness. The symptoms were debilitating: multiple, high-spiking fevers each day, intense pain that migrated to different parts of his body, weakness, and anemia. He was unable to work for six months, spent some time in the hospital, and was briefly given an incorrect diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
At the time, I thanked God for friendships that had formed quickly with this move (God is good and knew that I would need them) and they were a tremendous support. I was grateful, too, that eventually he was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune illness and we embarked on a quest to restore him to health.
We learned a lot about the effects of inflammation (especially the silent type that is chronic and takes decades to reveal itself as pain) and benefitted from the information provided by Andrew Weil, M.D. and others. Weil combines a medical degree from Harvard with natural health remedies and preventive medicine.
My husband is well and attributes his return to good health to God’s mercy, good doctors, a better diet, and actively reducing stress in his life.
This month I hope you’ll put into practice this food pyramid recommended by Dr. Weil. The investment in your health that you make today will reap great benefits in years to come!
