Blessed are the nobodies
by Dawn, in Washington
After being in CO only 1.5 years, my husband is being transferred yet again, this time to Washington. Your book and class were such a precious tool for me in my transition, and that is why I wanted to lead the class itself.
It was often hard adjusting to life so far away from my friends in Texas, and it was often very lonely. Washington will give me an opportunity to approach things differently, and I recognize this as a new beginning.
One of the most poignant moments came for me at church one Sunday. Our pastor was doing a sermon series on the Sermon on the Mount and, one Sunday, he spoke about “Blessed are the nobodies…” It tied in with one of the chapters of your book, “Nobody knows my name.” I cried as I heard this message, because it hit me that this is not about me, it’s about what God can accomplish through me when I am obedient to Him. I don’t need to seek recognition from man – rather, it is the applause of Heaven that I should seek.
While we were only here for a short time, it was a learning opportunity for me, and God revealed much about my character that was in want/need of some adjusting. I know that we shouldn’t waste our trials – we always can learn through our experiences, even when they are painful and lonely.
I also learned the enormous healing power of an encouraging word, and I am committed to writing more of these and investing in relationships through time, energy, and prayer.
